Need a rod suggestion guys. I emailed Tackle Direct but they didn’t provide as many suggestions as I had hoped.

Looking to buy a Penn Spinfisher V 5500, but not exactly sure what rod to pair it with?

I’d like a rod for offshore fishing for both jigging and bait. So, it needs to be versatile. Thinking the medium-heavy range. 30 lb braid.

I had looked at Penn Rampage, but I’m concerned it’s too heavy and big. Maybe a Shimano Trevala?

I already have a Stradic FJ 4000 with Abu Garcia Vendetta rod for inshore needs.

I figured both setups would be good for kayak fishing too.

Thanks in advance!

If you want a really versatile 30lb saltwater combo to jig and cast with that Spinfisher, I’d go for a 6’6 Penn Rampage (7 guides + tip). However, you’re looking for a heavy-action rod. Medium-heavy will snap when jigging, and 30lbs (plus heavy rod) is more appropriate for rigging blue crabs for big tarpon or throwing those huge poppers for trevally. Also, the Rampage rod is incredibly versatile. You can cover all bases of saltwater fishing with it, which I hope you’ll do. Tight lines!
