I was scanning for new videos over the weekend and a video about Billfish Research Teaser came up in my feed.

The cool news was that it wasn’t talking about a teaser for bringing the billfish close to the boat, it was a video teaser. And here I though research was always boring…

In this video, saltwater fly angler and president of the Billfish Research Project, Jamie Walker, is explaining (and showing) what they are doing with billfish.

Haven’t heard of the Billfish Research Project before?

Here is their mission. You can check out more here on their website after you watch the video below.

The mission of The Billfish Research Project is to pursue collaborative efforts between the science and sportfishing communities to enhance the billfish research knowledge base. The results of these efforts will be communicated to fisheries management policy makers, the scientific community and to the worldwide sportfishing community.

Great job Luke Pearson and Lawson Barnes!

Enjoy.

When PENN Fishing wants to show off a new fishing reel to journalists, they don’t just call a press meeting and do a quick presentation…

Instead, they take some of the world’s top fishing and outdoor journalists to Crocodile Bay in Costa Rica to test the new PENN Clash reels out for themselves.

And from the looks of this amazing fishing footage, PENN didn’t spare any expense in making sure these journalists had the time of their lives with lots of screaming PENN Clash Reels!

I can only imagine this new line of reels from PENN is going to get some high grades in the magazines and editorials…

Great job guys.

I can only imagine this blue marlin is going back to his friends telling them all how he stabbed a human on a boat…

If you’ve ever been marlin fishing before, you know that there are a lot of things that have to go right in order to land the marlin.

Ironically, the last thing you want is an energized marlin coming in the boat too early.

Check out what happens on board the Mufasa Sportfishing Boat in Australia this week.

Nuts!

That deckhand was like “Cool Hand Luke” out there! Acted like it hardly phased him that he was almost impaled!

Wow!

Talk about nailing every single point about why people love saltwater kayak fishing so much.

What a video!

I recall a few weeks ago when we interviewed angler Nick Lytle for our podcast (you can listen to the interview here) that he talked about one thing he loved so much about kayak fishing was the fact that you could hear everything.

Fish moving, mullet jumping, birds swooping down on bait… if you are quite and keep your ears perked, you can hear everything while kayak fishing.

In other words, a big part of kayak fishing is listening and being able to experience and hear nature around you while you hunt for fish.

So it was no surprise to hear kayak angler Jim Sammons mention the same thing.

He then goes on to talk about the “electricity” that hits his hands every time a fish hits the reel, not to mention, gets some outstanding footage from some nice fish (like the sailfish, Mahi, and tarpon he lands towards the end).

Great job Jim Sammons of the Kayak Fishing Show!

Enjoy.

It must be tough to be a sardine…

If this video makes you uncomfortable, it probably means you haven’t spent much time in the water…

Because this is nature at work…

And it is pretty awesome.

So many different (and beautiful) sea creatures all in one area, with one mission…to eat.

I found it mesmerizing how fast these Marlin are moving and dodging in and out of these bait pods.

It wasn’t until they slowed down the video that you could really see how much damage the marlin were doing during each run through the sardine bait ball.

And did anyone else think the footage with the marlin and the sea lion was similar to NFL players trying to dodge around a referee that found himself in the middle of the action?

You could almost hear the marlin telling the sea lion to move over.

Great job of capturing this amazing footage!

If you were following Salt Strong a year ago, you might recall the offshore fishing video that had some of the best marlin drone footage ever recorded on film.

(you can watch the original “Miss Behavin” video here)

In that original video, a group of young anglers flew over to Costa Rica to fish on the legendary “Miss Behavin” with Capt. Jose Reyes, and they hooked up with a ton of marlin.

But the coolest part of the original video was the drone footage. It was some of the first footage of a drone hovering right near a greyhounding marlin, and in a couple of instances, it even looked as if the marlin was going to run into the drone while jumping.

Pretty awesome!

Well, some of the same anglers went back to Costa Rica for some more action with Capt. Jose and the 61″ Miss Behavin.

Check out their experience below.

Note: They caught 25 big game fish in the 2+ days on board using light tackle.

The Cabo San Lucas Marina is one of the most well-known and famous marinas for sport fishing in the world.

On any given day, you will see more charter boats coming back into port with flags flying high for all of the billfish, tuna, and other sport fish that they landed that day than almost any other marina out there.

Yours truly even landed his first striped marlin out of the San Lucas Marina!

So when I saw this video of a nice striped marlin that was just cruising through this crazy busy marina (here is an aerial pic of the marina) chowing down sardines like it was an ordinary day, I knew it was going to be awesome!

Whoever said the toughest part of Marlin fishing is getting them to bite…

I bet if you asked deckhand Joe Freeman, he would tell you toughest part about Marlin fishing is the release…

Watch as Joe literally gets washed overboard while leadering and trying to release this Striped Marlin on the back platform of a boat (while the clients were up on the main deck certainly laughing a bit).

Probably the last time ol’ Joe jumped on the back platform to release a fish…

Enjoy!

WOW!

This video is like a scripted movie that leaves you wondering, “What the heck just happened!!!!”

At first I thought, “Oh, this is sad. Look what an ROV found on an oil rig. Too bad that swordfish is probably going to die there.”

Then, all of a sudden I perked up as the ROV pulled out its robotic arms and went in for the ultimate swordfish save.

I was on the edge of my seat while it tried to free the swordfish from the oil rig…

And then…

Well, I won’t ruin it for you. Watch the video below to find out what happens. And make sure to watch until the end.

Crazy!
