You can do balancing adjustments on the water to maximize your casting and retrieving energy for the day.
If you use mostly live bait this probably doesn’t matter.
You want to find where your rod and reel balance at one point (you’ll be able to hold your setup on one finger).
And depending on where the balance point is, you can adjust your retrieve based on how you’re fishing.
Remember that if your balance is tip-heavy, gravity is going to pull your rod tip down.
That’s great for working topwaters.
But if you’re fishing a twitch bait and you need your rod tip to be up, then you’ll be fighting that gravity all day long.
In this case, just change your retrieve by shifting your hand up on the rod.
You control the balance with your hand placement (which should change depending on how you’re working a lure).

Glad I found this. I use to think my hand had to stay on the seat where the reel is but it does make sense to balance it better alittle more up on the cork. Thanks again. Can’t wait to go try this

I like it but what are disadvantages to this?
I can’t think of any disadvantages of this.
