Want to find the honey holes this fall?

I break down the importance of structure, specifically potholes, for attracting saltwater fish.

Learn how these subtle depressions act as ambush points and attract baitfish, leading you to the 90/10 zones where fish congregate.

Plus, discover why fishing shallow can lead to explosive action and bigger catches, especially for redfish.

This is directly from our newest eBook “Scientific Saltwater Fishing” which you can download for free.

What All Of These Fishing HONEY HOLES Have In Common…

Podcast Notes

  • Structure is key: When planning your fishing trip, prioritize finding areas with structure like potholes, ledges, and oyster bars. These areas attract baitfish and provide ambush points for predators.
  • Potholes are overlooked: Potholes, or depressions in the seafloor, are often overlooked but highly effective fish attractors. Fish may be in the pothole itself or on the edges.
  • Go shallow: Don’t be afraid to fish in shallow water, even a foot or less! Many inshore species, especially redfish, prefer these shallow areas for feeding.
  • Maximize structure, maximize fish: The more types of structure you can find in an area, the more fish you’re likely to encounter.
  • Pre-trip planning is essential: Use tools like Smart Fishing Spots to identify promising areas with structure before you even leave the house. This will save you time on the water and increase your chances of success.
  • Don’t overestimate gear: While having the right gear is important, it’s less critical than finding the right spot and using the right techniques.
  • Consider the 90/10 zone: Focus your efforts on the 90/10 zones, those prime fishing spots where the majority of fish are concentrated.
