#1 Winter Fishing Lure
The most versatile and dynamic winter fishing lures are the ones that apply to many different scenarios and consistently catch fish.
Look no further than the Slam Shady 2.0 paddletail lure!
The Slam Shady 2.0 is a smaller profile paddletail lure that excels in any fishing situation.
It also matches the small baitfish that predatory fish are keyed into during the winter.
Rigging This Lure During Winter
1. Owner Weighted Twistlock Hook
The first way to rig the Slam Shady 2.0 is using an Owner Weighted Twistlock Hook.
This rig is best used if the fish are actively feeding or if you are trying to cover lots of ground in search of a bite.
For this approach, all you need is a straight retrieve of the paddletail.
If you want to slow things down or the fish are not super active, you can also use the twitch-twitch-pause approach.
The truth is there is no wrong way to retrieve or work a paddletail lure.
This is what makes the Slam Shady 2.0 the most versatile lure during the wintertime.
Throughout winter and the colder months, temperatures fluctuate from day to day which affects feeding patterns and trends.
As a result, the Slam Shady 2.0 can be applied to use during these times of changing temperatures.
2. The “Nub” Rig
The “Nub” rig is the Slam Shady 2.0 rigged on a jighead or a weighted hook, just with the tail pinched off.
By removing the tail from the lure, you are creating a Slam Shady jerkbait.
This rig is great for when you actively see fish feeding or tailing and you want to sight cast at them.
Or, you can use this rig to work a school of fish more thoroughly.
To work this lure setup, you need to cast where you know there are fish and slowly inch your retrieve closer while adding some light twitches and pauses.
You want to grasp the fish’s attention without spooking it off.
The length of your pauses and the number of twitches should correlate with current fishing trends and weather fluctuation.
If you are fishing a cooling trend, you want to extend the length of your pauses and utilize light rod twitches when retrieving.
On the other hand, if you are fishing a warming trend, you want to aggressively twitch and maintain action on your lure.
You should mix up your retrieves to find out what will work on that given day.
3. Mushroom Jighead
When you rig the Slam Shady 2.0 on a mushroom jighead, you should retrieve this lure one of two ways.
You can slowly jig the lure along the bottom or you can slightly twitch the lure up and reel in the slack as you bring it back to you.
Moreover, you could even “dead-stick” the lure and soak it in a scent like Dr. Juice and let it sit in an area where you know for sure there are fish.
When you jig this lure along the bottom, the weight of the jighead pushes the back of the lure to point to the surface and wiggle slightly.
That is almost like ringing a dinner bell to predatory fish!
This is a fantastic approach if you are targeting lethargic fish after a cold front comes through.

Thank you for sharing your time to make this video. It had some good content.
Thank you James! Glad it helped.
Great Info Pat. This video lets me know that what I’ve been doing is right.
Thanks for watching! Appreciate the feedback
Every time I order the slam shady 2.0 I receive a slam shady 3.5 are they one in the same or do you not have the 2.0 in stock
Robert, what do you mean? The 2.0 is the second version of the original slam shady. If you are referring to the length, 2.0 doesn’t men anything. They are 3.5″ and the Bomber is 5″. I hope this helps. Tight lines.
can’t believer you tried to put some fake video off on us! shame on you!
Can you please help me understand what you mean about the fake video comment? Were you not able to watch the video that is shown in this post?
What in the world does that comment mean? What is fake about the video?

Thanks for the feedback Buddy! I’m sure you’re going to enjoy those new lures!
Great video Pat. Great tips on retrieves and how to approach fish based on what you are doing. Can you discuss the jig head used ?
Thanks Pablo!
The jighead I’m using is the Zman ProShroomz in either the 1/10oz or 1/6oz depending on the depth. It has a 2/0 fine wire hook that is pretty stout and does a great job on inshore species.
Thank you
I was unaware of those sizes and definitely do not have any
Thanks have a great 2022
I will admit the 2.0 slam shady is a great lure I normally dip the tail in spike it glows chartruese dye because of the tannin stained water we have here in northeast Florida where I live and fish but in the spring summer and fall until the water starts getting cold I sometimes use them on a spinnerbait for reds and flounder thanks for the tips and all you do😉👍
Thanks Steven!
I used to use Spike-it all the time when I bass fished but haven’t really thought much about it inshore fishing. I’ll have to revisit it.
Any chance you could try to use some periods and commas in your posts? I enjoy your input, but your run-on paragraphs make your posts truly difficult to read through. “Time to eat grandpa” and “Time to eat, grandpa” are two VERY different statements.
Great video full of many informative tips! Thanks Pat!!!
Thank you Sir!
