STOP! Don’t Replace Your Noisy Reel Until You Try This
- By: Tony Acevedo

Is your spinning reel making noise? A common culprit is the line roller or roller bearing. Corrosion or damage can cause friction, weird sounds, and even fray your line!
Here’s the quick fix:
- Check the Roller: Pull your line back and forth across it—if you hear crunching, it’s likely corroded.
- Clean or Replace: Unscrew the roller, clean it, or replace it if needed.
Want to see how it’s done? Watch the video below for a step-by-step breakdown and get back to catching fish—the only noise you’ll hear is your drag screaming!

You’re welcome Dennis! Oh yes for sure, good tip!
Awesome tutorial AGAIN. Thank you Tony, I’ll be checking those bearings tomorrow 🤜🤛
You’re welcome Dave!
Thanks good info
You’re welcome Terry!
i wish it was easy to get parts from Daiwa. I have to clean my ceramic bushings in my BGMQ often as they get crud build up often and make an awful sound. I tried switching to the bearings kit but after a while the noise was just as bad, if not worse.
Definitely tough to get them directly. I wish more companies would make some quality aftermarket parts.
Good info, Tony. Seems like more of a problem with the Shimano reels, Ci4 in particular. When trying to clean them, the same problem reemerged shortly thereafter. I now just buy the line roller assembly that comes with several rather than buying them individually. Have you tried the ceramic roller bearings? I haven’t but wonder if this might offer a more permanent fix.
Thanks Rob! Yeah those reels are notorious for noisy line rollers. After taking one of mine off I found that the coating of one of the line rollers was chipping off which was causing the noise.
I haven’t tried the ceramic ones. The replacements i have are titanium so we’ll see how they last!
Thanks for the tip Tony!
