The Salty Scales Story (With Capt. Joshua Taylor)
- By: Joseph Simonds

A banker is just about the farthest occupation you can get from being a fishing captain…
But that’s exactly what Joshua Taylor was before he became Captain Joshua Taylor.
Being stuck in an office looking out the window made him feel like his spirit was slowly dying… does that sound familiar?
In this podcast episode, we’re talking about Capt. Joshua’s journey from an unfulfilled banker to the founder of Salty Scales and how he’s leveraged his success to not only spend more time with his two young kids, but also give back to his community.
Here’s a sneak preview of what we covered:
- Why he felt like a caged lion in the corporate world
- How he’s trying to help kids without a father figure learn how to fish
- His thoughts on baitcasters vs. spinning reels
- Some of the best new lures he’s tried out recently
- Why he’s so passionate about performance fishing shirts
- And much more
If you’ve ever dreamed of quitting your job and following your dreams in the outdoor world, you’ll definitely want to hear this!

Awesome podcast guys! Capt Joshua was one of my 1st fishing subs on youtube for a long time! I remember searching and found him learning how to tie my own pompano rigs using the palomar knot. I was a rook using the Walmart metal rigs lol! Great and humble human being and learned many techniques prior to Saltstrong. Its amazing you guys got together and share similar experiences. Man really looking forward to see a video on lure challenges! It will blow up your views bigtime!
Good stuff, Franklin! Thank you for taking the time to listen and comment.
