You’ll learn:
- What’s unique about this reel
- What style of fishing this reel is best for (and what style it’s not good for)
- How Quantum has recently upgraded their reels

Also, keep in mind that we’re not sponsored or affiliated with Quantum or any other reel company, so this is a totally unbiased review.

Conclusion
If you’re looking for a powerful reel for tossing live or cut bait for big fish, like tarpon, and don’t mind paying a lot for reels, this reel is for you.
However, if you use artificial lures and make a lot of casts throughout the day, this reel might not be the right fit for you because it’s heavier than some comparable reels.

I’ve got two Quantum Cabos – a PTs 50 and a PT 40. They have given me fits. The 50 locked up and the casing split open today. The 40 requires frequent disassembly and maintenance. I liked the drags on them but I would not recommend these reels, especially at the price point. Going back to my battleship Penns.
Really? These reels are run on most charters around here because they are built like tanks. They are not the smoothest reels, but strength wise they are hardy. There is a reason these have a 5 year Iron Clad warranty.
Outstanding review. Thank you. Any chance you could review Shimano Saragosa 8000/10000 models. I need a few new tarpon reels and this was a contender but with the weight issue, I think I want something lighter.
