Fish Scent Battle (Pro-Cure vs New Custom Inshore Scent)

http://sight%20fishing%20snook

Do you ever put Pro-Cure on your lures?

If you don’t, let me ask you this…

Did you know that dogs have a sense of smell more than 10,000 times greater than humans do… and fish have a sense of smell more than 1,000 times better than dogs?!

Since their sense of smell is so strong, we’re on a mission to find the best scent to put on your lures to maximize the amount of fish you catch.

Pro-Cure is the existing industry leader, but we’re testing out a new scent to see how they compare.

In this LIVE video, we’re pitting these two head to head as we fish docks for snook, grouper, and jack crevalle.

The contest was a landslide… just not in the way I expected it to be!

What a butt whooping!

Sometimes it’s just not your day, right?

But hey, good thing thing Luke was on fire so we could get some results with this test.

Here’s what we learned:

  • The new juice won 5 to 4, and it got the biggest fish of the day. There’s still lots of testing to be done here, but it’s an interesting start.
  • You HAVE to get your lures to the bottom when you’re fishing deeper water in the cold. Since I couldn’t get my lure to the bottom (I should’ve used a heavier jig head), I didn’t catch any fish.
  • Fish LOVE the new Power Prawn. Be on the lookout because this is coming soon!

What are your thoughts on putting scent on your lures?

Do you do it? Do you think it works?

why the disparity in the tight line when same scent

Congrats on the Pathfinder, love my 2300 HPS. FYI the TM may be able to have the electronic foot control added which I do on mine (mine is a MK Terrova v. Motorguide) and that way when dock fishing I use the foot control to maneuver the boat and never take my hands off of the rod & reel. It’s no louder than the remote and gives you the ability a bass boat has. Both the remote and foot control work at the same time so it’s not one or the other.

On to the “juice”, curious to see what you guys got in to as I have given Pro Cure a lot of opportunity and while it helps it’s nowhere near as effective as Gulp is so hopefully the new concoction you are testing will prove to be.

Solid scent can’t hurt even in a reaction bite scenario (paddle tails, chatter baits, etc) so I say up-level your chances if you can. Good video and love the boat!

So the video seemed to show that Joe was rooting for the juice to win so he could announce that it was being sold in the Salt Strong tackle shop.

It’s good to hear you are trying to maintain your objectivity and not being driven by the sound of the cash register. Try to keep your thumb off the scale to resist becoming just another hardware hawker.

When do you think you might be getting it in?

That’s definitely on the list of contests to do… very much looking forward to that one.

When I take kids out I ask them what the five senses are. Then we go over what sense a particular bait might appeal to. Popular Christian author Dr. Gary Chapman has a book out on the five “Love Languages”. Do you suppose there might be five “Lunge Languages” (sight, sound, touch/vibration, taste, smell) that attract fish? If not, how do you account for the success of cut-bait that just sits on the bottom? (Just asking.)

My wife has been trying for 15 years to get me to read that book. 😁

All of the senses you listed seem to be used by fish to find they prey. Yes, the effectiveness of cut bait should be evidence enough that smell alone can be a factor in getting strikes.

Nice video, guys.
Have you ever used Stank Stick? It is a scent in a deodorant-like stick. Maybe you can compare that to ProScent some day.

This is actually the first I’ve heard of the Stank Stick. I’ll make sure to do some research on it to see what it’s all about. Have you tried it yet?

Florida “after a cold front” darn sure don’t look like a Texas “after a cold front”. Wish I lived in FL.

This was an abnormally calm morning after a front due to the winds shifting from one direction to another… we luckily got out there at the perfect time.

Hey Luke what rods were you using? Looks like smoke reel but curious about the rods? Great videos and content. Love the insider club as well as the slam shady and tackle store. Overall just great everything.

Thanks so much for making time to leave the nice comment Brian! I was using 7’6″ MH Bull Bay Stealth Sniper rods with the Quantum Smoke 25 reel.
