My Setup:
- Rod: TFO Pro S – 7’6″ Medium Power
- Reel: Daiwa Legalis 2500
- Line: 10lb J-Braid 8 Grand
- Leader: 20 lb Ande Monofilament
- Scent: Dr. Juice Saltwater Slam Exclusive Scent
- Lure: Skinny Lipper
The Skinny Lipper is like a “top-diver” lure.
It floats and when you give it a twitch, it will dive down a few inches and float back up to the surface.
You can work it like a slow topwater lure or pick up the pace and work it like a slash bait.
This retrieve works the lure similarly to a soft plastic jerk bait.
So if pufferfish or other pests are around, you won’t lose the tails of your lures with the Skinny Lipper.
Or, you can keep things simple and straight retrieve this lure for a streamline presentation with a slight wobble.
I hit the water to test out all 3 retrieve styles!!
I started out fishing in 3 feet of water that dropped down to 1.5 feet as we got closer to spoil islands in front of us.
This plug was designed to excel in super shallow water situations.
The first trout was following the plug for a while so I slowed down my retrieve and included more twitches to trigger the strike.
That is the cool thing about this lure.
You can switch up retrieves mid-cast based on fish behavior to induce strikes.
Also, once you get the fish off the hook, this lure is ready to rock.
No need to re-rig or check if it is still on the hook like other soft plastic lures.
If you’re looking for a hard-body plug to work the shallows, look no further than the Skinny Lipper.
It comes equipped with single inline hooks which is easier on you and on the fish.

I caught an Osprey on a chugbug. I had to knock him out of the sky a couple times and then put a towel over its head so I could get the hooks out of it talons. I did not want to get bit or grabbed with the talons.
Yea not going this weekend very low score only a 9 sat on the solonar tables out of 100 plus the tide sucks it gets low right before sunrise I like a rising tide not outgoing in the early morning but I do have an area that ALWAYS has lots of reds in it but they can be extremely finicky at times but I know they have not seen the new skinny lipped and I’m eager to try it out there it is and gets pretty shallow with lots of oysters but I know that’s why the reds are always there some big flounder as well plus lots of creekmouths so hopefully the lure will do its job next week we will see thanks for the info and all you do😉👍
Please keep me posted on how you do on that spot.
That was great. Apparently everything loves the new lure. Mine should be in this week and I’m heading to Yankeetown in a couple weeks for a week of camping and kayak fishing! Thanks for the video.
Glad to see that you enjoyed this video! With all of the shallow flats in Yankeetown, this lure should work great there.
