In those early days of “March Fishing Madness: Warrior Strong“, Luke and I never could have imagined how much of an impact this trip would have on us…
We forged new friendships…
We caught a crazy amount of fish…
We came up with a new Salt Strong mantra…(stay tuned)
We came up with a slightly new business model after bouncing ideas off of so many anglers down on the island (stay tuned)
We gave a Wounded Warrior (Scott Lilley – Air Force) and his buddy Brandon one heck of an experience (which had a profound effect on us – read the awesome and emotional full story here “The Luckiest Fisherman in America”)
And we couldn’t have made all of this possible without YOU!
So Thank You!
Thank you to Wounded Warrior Scott Lilley for risking his life for our freedom.
Thank you to Brandon Claussen for taking the time off to accompany Scott.
Thank you to all Veterans, Wounded Warriors, and active Military for what you do to protect us.
Thank you to all of the fishing guides and fishing experts that agreed to let us interview you.
Thank you to all of fans and followers that tuned in, that shared, that liked, and that have supported us so far.
Thank you to our Iowa friends from Blackhawk County that we met on the island (the bacon was amazing by the way).
Thank you to our neighbors from Sarasota for the support and the amazing Key Lime Pie.
Thank you to Joan and Todd (and Doug the dog) for the brownies and support.
Thank you to Andrew for all of the great videography while down on the island.
Thank you to the Rutherfords for the hospitality.
Thank you to Rande Ridenhour for the hospitality and an amazing island home.
Thank you to Richard, Marley, and Candace for joining us out on the island.
Thank you to all of our Winter Haven friends for the love, support, and wearing of our Salt Strong gear! You guys rock!
Thank you to everyone we came across and met while we were down on Little Gasparilla Island.
Thank you to my parents for taking our 3-year old for an entire month.
Thank you to my unbelievably strong and patient wife Loren for allowing me to take a month off (while balancing her own job, a 9-month old, and all of the other duties she does for Team Simonds)
Thank you God for all of the amazing grace and favor over us this past month. It couldn’t have possibly been more perfect.
The Future…
After speaking with our Uncle Vince Leone (a Veteran himself that is starting to do some big things to help Veterans thrive and prosper with a company called VetStarts), he informed us of an alarming statistic…
That 22-23 Veterans commit suicide every single day.
This is clearly a very serious issue, and one that we would like to help alleviate in any way that we can.
Even if it is the mere fact of us taking Vets fishing and creating a fun experience that can prevent just one veteran from taking his or her life, then Luke and I will do it until we are old and broke.
So stay tuned for some big events in the future, and continue to support, lift up, and give thanks to our military and veterans.
