In this report, we ended up catching a grand slam consisting of the following species:
- Seatrout
- Redfish
- Snook
- Tarpon
As you’ll see, the recipe is surprisingly easy and doesn’t require a huge assembly of lures—here’s the fun report!

Keys to Success
- The key to finding the fish was to use the Smart Fishing Spots system along with the recent trends as explained in the Weekend Game Plans to identify high-probability spots to target.
- Lure selection was the final key. We started off with the Skinny Lipper to help attract attention in the early hours when the fish were most active. Then we changed to subsurface soft plastics once the sun came up and the bite slowed down to help trigger strikes from less aggressive fish. Finally, we switched to Prawn USA jigs to get strikes from bigger fish near the bottom in 6+ ft of water.
Thanks so much for your time in reading this report!

Great video, very helpful.
Hey Joe, what would be your reason for not trying a sinking hard plastic lure? Loved the video, Very informative.
We spend most of our time in shallow water with structure on the bottom, so a sinking hard lure with exposed hooks will almost results in a lot of frustration.
For the tarpon, I like to always use single hook lures for safety when unhooking them.
Like many of us, most of my fishing is from shore, so I am typically in quite shallow water. Sandy bottom soft structure. It is absolutely necessary to fish with sinking hard lures. At least if you want to catch fish that is. Certain times fish will not hit top water.
Thanks, that plan will sure cut down on all the tackle I usually take.
That what I like see thanks for the info and great video!
That was freaking awesome Luke, great day of fishing, and thanks for the info
Thanks for making time to post the nice comment Nick!
Cool video! No surprise to me. Been doing the same thing for more than 50 years. Different lures, but similar. Leiza and Lowe are both good anglers too, so great job, Luke. Awesome day.
Thanks Ray!
Awesome stuff, Luke. Less is best for sure.
Thanks Greg!
Excellent recipe, the only thing I would have tried again just to know is A top water sometimes you just might get the unexpected, but you found out tarpon are shrimp on bottom, you still gave me some great insights, thank you again mike j
I can’t remember if anyone tried a topwater or not in that tarpon spot… we all tried several options before finally realizing that they weee feeding on bottom.
