The state of North Carolina has issued a statement saying it will NOT have a flounder season in 2024.
This does not apply to commercial anglers, only recreational.
Stay educated and stay informed on issues like this that are affecting your area.
All of this information is public and all of the meetings are documented.
Make sure your voice is heard.

I think it is ridiculous that the recreational fisherman can’t keep flounder at all and the commercial fisherman can keep all they can net. It sucks. That’s about all i can say right now.
Meanwhile i fished right across the state line in Cherry Grove SC (same body of water as NC with the ICW) and you can keep 5 flounder a person. There were so many boats from NC there it was ridiculous, even at 5 am boats everywhere, made it hard to find any keeper size
I am a little late to this post. I to fish Cherry Grove 2 to 3 times a week. Awesome fishery for such a small body of water. Jon boat and kayak heaven. The amount of boat’s this year from NC is insane. Last year I could fish from 5am till around 9am and feel comfortable in my kayak but this year is different. I have had to change up my fishing to stay out of the main channel and fish just the back creeks where Jon boats can’t get so I won’t get run over.
Well joe we here in Florida do get a flounder season but I don’t like the fact that like north carolina our season is closed for 6 weeks beginning oct 15 through Nov all the way until 1 Dec when it opens back up again and the giggers still get an all year season with no close times seems somewhat very unfair to me considering we all know who takes the majority of the flounder obviously the giggers that’s who!!! Plus the fact that the fish and game are not out when they are taking them making it extremely easy to get as many as they want I know considering the summer months I’m out night fishing and I never see game wardens but I do see giggers seems like ever since covid everything has changed and it’s certainly not for the better more people going out being stupid and drinking while boating getting into accidents or whatever because the fish and game just are not doing there job in my opinion like they should checking and making our waters more safe now maybe where you live and fish it’s different and they are checking doing there job like they are supposed to but not here in jax fl where I live and fish and yes it was somewhat a pain in the rear when they used to check all the time but I would rather put up with that then worry about some drunkin jackass doing stupid stuff just because they can the law is the law and no body is above it or should be excempt there is a reason for it and should be followed enough said🤔
MHO is that this is everyone’s fight regardless of which state you reside. It’s obvious that the politicians have converted a public resource to a for profit enterprise. If recent events have shown anything it’s that citizens can no longer stand on the sidelines and let some one else “do it”. Recently heard 30% of NRA members are registered to vote I’m sure the politicians know it. Politician are out to help themselves this is blatant evidence of that. If sportsman organized they would be the most powerful organization in the country with politicians graveling at their feet.
NC has had almost closed flounder seasons for the past 3 years. The past 2 years, the re recreational season was only 2 weeks. Without any data, the “experts” said the recreational anglers caught way too many flounder so they closed the season this year. One commercial angler will catch more flounder in a single day (using gill nets) than I can catch in a lifetime. Most commercial anglers do not report and catch data and many never sell a single fish. The NC Marine Fisheries is a disaster!! The people in charge have VERY close ties to commercial fish houses. If that’s not a conflict of interest, I don’t know what is!
Thanks for sharing Joe. I am currently trying to learn more about things that are going on in VA for this very reason so I can engage.
