It’s hogfish time!
This week, on the Fish Strong podcast, we had Capt. Dylan Hubbard from Hubbard’s Marina on to talk about bottom fishing…
If you don’t know Dylan, he’s a son of a son of a son of a sailor…
His grandfather started Hubbard’s Marina in John’s Pass way back in the late 1920/s!
But here’s the thing on the podcast:
After we got into the conversation with Dylan about some general offshore fishing tips, we just couldn’t stop talking about catching hogfish.
Which means two things:
- You’re going to get some awesome tips on targeting hogfish on this episode…
- We’ll certainly have Dylan back on to talk more about bottom fishing
- You’ll also learn how to make a chum-pop and chum-sickle…

Which bulls bay rod would pair well with a FFP Osprey 5000 for hogfish?
Any specific color and weight would you recommend for the Capt. Chappy hog ball jigs?
Hey Gregory those are the jigs I make. The hot colors recently have been flame orange, pink, and silver. I personally start about 1/2-ounce but others prefer the heavier 3/4 or 1-ounce sizes. Let me know if you have any questions!
How do I order some?
You can visit my website captainchappy .com they’re all there. There’s a few packages if you don’t know where to start. I’m in Facebook as well if you want to contact me there look for the picture with the big red snapper
Great podcast! I’m glad I recently learned a lot of this with some buddies and this helped to confirm I’ve been on the right track. To me, it’s one of the best tasting fish I’ve ever tasted AND one of the coolest looking too.
Thanks Danny! I agree that hogfish are some extremely good tasting (and looking) fish.
Luke… I think you need to put that Redfish trophy up behind you next time!!!
Cheers mate!
I’m saving that spot for the Slam trophy:)
Awesome video. I keep waiting for Saltstrong to have a trip at Hubbard Marine. Can’t wait much longer. I want to go.
