Another great video from the SaltStrong Family(FYI) Something I have learned while fishing freshwater over the last couple of years with your style of weedless football jigs (Wobble Head Jigs). I have found it best to have a o-ring between the weight and the hook. This will help provide almost a full rotation so the fish can’t pin the weight against the hook which only allows from a 0 – 25 degree turn compared to a 75-85 radius turn while using the O-ring. This trick will help a great deal when fighting fish. Just a thought….. works well with my Spotted Bass, Largemouth Bass and Striped Bass! Have not been able to use technique on the coast due to personal issues, however I’m sure it would work all the same. Tight Lines and Screaming Drags Everyone!!!!!

Shrimp baits you have available. I can use a chinlockz or the Zman Bullet weedless hook to fish it with.

What size shrimp are you interested in? I used to only go down to a 3.5″ sized shrimp lure, but I have recently been getting some surprisingly good results with trimming that lure down to about 2.25 inches, so I’m very interested in doing some small shrimp lure testing.

I will be buying some for painting to add to my arsenal of baits especially the Football Jig heads and the Weedless Football Hooks. Thanks for another great video!! Food for thought how about an Ned Shrimp @ 2″ to 2.5″ long to imitate Grass Shrimp. What do ya’ll think?
I think that the weedless football jighead may be a bit too long for a 2″ soft plastic… but the 2/0 regular football jig will certainly work for it.
Grass is our main structure we target here in Aransas pass. As wade fishermen we fish deep 6 to 8ft and we don’t fish on bottom using our regular jig heads. Hook suggestions?
I like the Hoss weedless football jigheads for that type of situation where I’m fishing bottom structure in more than 3ft of water.

Luke, thanks for the helpful video. I’m still not clear on which one to use when skipping up under mangroves. Maybe I need to watch again.
There isn’t a one size fits all answer to that need… it depends on how deep you need the lure to reach too.
Basically, the lighter the jighead used, the better it’ll skip. But if you’re trying to skip under docks or mangroves that overhang deep water, you’ll need to go with a heavier jighead in spite of losing some skipping performance.
But in general if you’re skipping up under mangroves in 1 to 2 ft of water which is most common, the weighted hooks are the way to go (either 1/16 oz or 1/8th oz depending on how fast you’d like it to fall once in the water).
