Gulp Waxies: How To Catch More Baitfish With Sabiki Rigs

What do you use to tip your sabiki rigs?
Shrimp?
Squid?
Many people use these live or frozen baits, but here’s another suggestion:
Gulp Waxies.
These are tiny little maggot-looking baits that have the patented Gulp scent that fish love.
I’ve been using them on my sabiki rig recently and in this video you’re going to learn:
- why these baits are great for sabiki rigs
- how to rig them
- another good option for tipping sabiki rigs that you probably already have in your tackle box

Instead of wasting squid or shrimp to catch bait, another good option is to use Gulp Waxies.
They’re just the right size for the small hooks on sabiki and other bait-catching rigs, and baitfish love the smell of them.
Plus, you can get them at Bass Pro, Walmart, or Amazon, so you don’t need to waste time and stop at the bait shop on your way to the water.
As far as rigging them goes, I like to just rig them right through the top from one side to the other.
There’s no need to thread the whole Waxie on the hook, and rigging them from one side to the other leaves a lot of hook exposed so you can hook into the baitfish’s mouth.
And speaking of Gulps, another option for you to tip your sabiki rigs with are chunks of gulp lures, like shrimp or jerk shads.
I like to cut up used lures that have been torn up by fish and are no longer fishable.
I’ll cut them into little chunks and rig them on a small hook just like I would with the Waxies (see the picture below).
Conclusion
Whether you’re trying to catch pinfish, pigfish, croakers, or any other type of baitfish, Gulp Waxies or Gulp chunks are excellent choices.
You can get them before your fishing trip to save time, and you won’t need to waste your shrimp or squid to catch bait.
You can get them from Amazon here.

Tony, once again you are providing really good info to the members of the club! Thank you!
Thank you for the awesome feedback Rudy!
Out of curiosity, would old broken Gulp bait pieces work as well?
For sure! I would just try to cut them into skinny pieces like the waxies are. If you put a bulky chunk on it can be tough to hook the baitfish that are biting it.
