Trip Of A Lifetime Exploring New Waters For Striped Bass & Bluefish

I made my way up to Connecticut exploring new waters for Striped Bass and Bluefish!

I and a few buddies hit the Long Island Sound to see if we could spark a bite.

This is something I had never done before but always wanted to and I didn’t miss my chance.

It turned out to be the trip of a lifetime!!!

A lot of this was completely new to me but I do know fishing and jigging for bites.

Our main targets were striped bass and bluefish.

We started out fishing in 90 feet of water and for this type of fishing, you can use any soft plastic lure on jigheads or other types of jigging rigs.

We were using vertical jigs in the 150-200 grand range (almost 7 ounces to combat the strong current).

It is all about maintaining a vertical presentation to spark a bite.

The first small bass I hooked into I actually snagged in the back!

But we were on the board.

The Next Day

The following morning, we worked on two sections of the water column.

We bounced the bottom with artificial eels and worked giant topwater plugs on the surface.

It didn’t take long for a massive bluefish to come up and inhale the topwater plug I tossed out there.

The ACTION was on from there!!!

Bass and bluefish were busting the surface all around us.

These fish get very competitive so once they see another fish strike, it fires the rest of the fish up and the bite is ON.

A little while later, I tossed out the topwater lure and a MASSIVE striped bass came up and swallowed it down.

After I landed that giant, the topwater bite slowed down and we switched over to throwing 9-inch soft plastic eels on a 1-ounce jighead to get down to the bottom.

At this point, we were fishing in 50 feet of water over a natural reef bottom.

This was the trip of a lifetime!!

Special thanks to my buddies for inviting me up North to reel in some MONSTERS!

Absolutely loved your video. I have experienced that fishery when I lived up there and it’s crazy exhilarating. For your next adventure may I suggest night surf fishing on the Montuck beach with live eels. Everything was fine until the fish on my line dragged me into the surf. Once my waders started to fill up and I couldn’t control the fish and simultaneously keep from drowning I lost a very nice rod and reel.
Welcome back !
