On-The-Water Action

Within the first five minutes of being out on the water, we were doubled up on big fish.

The first fish of the day was a solid 22-inch trout.

After the initial bite, our goal was to target redfish cruising up and down grass lines in search of bait.

Our goal was to dial into a pattern and spark a bite.

With little to show for after a few casts with the Wake Bait, I switched to a subsurface F.R.E.D. Mulligan which ended up being the ticket!

Within a few cranks of the reel, I had a small redfish on the end of the line.

On the next cast, a fish hit my lure but didn’t connect to the hook.

So I let the lure sink and flutter back down until the fish came back for it and I stuck the hookset.

I knew I found a small school of redfish so I pitched the lure back in there and hooked up once again.

The Mulligan was crushing fish left and right until we came to a spot with some exposed grass around a point.

I saw the fish were schooled up on the opposite side of the point so I decided to make a lure change.

I used a floating stick-minnow lure to float around the point and to the fish.

It didn’t take long to trigger a strike!

The current, wind, and conditions created the perfect spot to churn bait up so the redfish could sit and pluck off easy meals.

So we sat there with them throwing lures right into the mix almost getting strikes on every cast.

The winds were howling so we tried to make a move to find protection but that just ran us off the water.

However, we were able to lock into a trend and find the fish.

Tall grass lines with moving water around points will fill up with bait and become perfect feeding zones this spring.

In just a few hours, we detected the pattern to find the fish!
