As the winter cold fronts pile up, they bring heavy winds along with them.
Some of the best wintertime fishing is right before these fronts hit.
But the winds can make it unsafe to be out on the water.
The first thing you need to find is a launch area in wind protection (if you’re fishing from a vessel) and a nearby area that you can fish in that is also wind-protected.
Avoid crossing open bodies of water.
Another thing to keep in mind is you might not always run into what you’re after.
Although you may want to target redfish, snook, or other inshore species, you will likely hook into whatever is willing to bite.
As far as lures go, my go-to lure for pre or post-frontal fishing is a paddletail.
The fish are a bit more aggressive during the pre-frontal bite so you can bump up to a bigger size lure.
After temperatures drop during the post-frontal period, go down a size to match the hatch.

Thanks for the lesson Pat. I usually do really good in the warmer months and struggle in the winter. My goal this year is to turn my winter fishing around. Will definitely be trying out this technique.
Thanks Pat for another informative video.
