How to Skip a Lure Under Mangroves and Docks [Video]

Once I learned how to effectively skip a lure under mangroves, I began to catch slot reds and snook more consistently without having to bother waking up early to catch live bait in the morning.
And before you know it, I was almost completely weened off of using live bait (in fact, I stopped taking my 12-foot cast net out a couple of years ago)…
You see I faced the same problem that most “Weekend Warrior” Inshore Anglers face…I couldn’t be out on the water every day…
Usually I only had time in my life to do single day trips that were spaced out by at least a week (and typically multiple weeks apart).
In other words, I didn’t have the luxury of guides that were on the water every day… the ones that know exactly where to catch bait, and exactly where to hunker down to chum up the best shoreline.
And since the two essential steps (1) Catching good bait, and then (2) Finding a spot holding enough good fish to have a action-packed day would some days take me a few hours or more to piece together, there typically was not much time left to catching in my limited amount of time on the water.
On the other hand, when effectively skipping artificials up under the mangrove overhangs, the weekend warrior inshore angler has an advantage as you will be able to get your bait in front of a lot more fish since you’ll have more “true fishing time”.
Moreover, you can get your artificial baits further back under the bushes with less worry of getting stuck (highly recommend using a weedless soft plastic bait)…
Finally, you’ll be able to cover a lot more territory because you won’t have to move slowly to fish the live bait (so you’ll have a much greater chance at finding the areas with the most fish each day that you’re able to get out on the water.)
As as you will see towards the end of this video below, you don’t even need a boat to catch snook and redfish in your neck of the woods…
With that said, here’s a quick video showing how to skip a lure (Make sure to stick around til the end of video to see some Snook Catching in the Mangroves)
