Not all trips go as planned. You can do your pre-trip planning and put yourself in the right place at the right time. but it’s not a guarantee that you’ll catch fish.
On a recent trip I made a solid plan that involved overcoming the challenge of thick, topped out grass. I found the fish, but through a series of bad luck and, truthfully, some mistakes on my part, I was having trouble catching the fish that were there.
In this video, I’ll walk you through the day and show you the action that I was having along with the heartbreaks and finally, what I did to turn the day around and convert those misses into catches.

Key to Success
- In the challenging condition of topped out grass, spotting the fish as they cruise on the surface is the best way to know where to cast.
- Once you see a cruising fish, placing your cast far enough in front of it so it doesn’t spook when the lure hits the water.
- Especially in low/no wind conditions or high-pressure areas, long casts are paramount to avoid spooking fish.
- When things are frustrating, simply powering through can make things worse. Instead, take a mental break and unplug for a few minutes. Then consider the problems and identify the solutions with a refreshed mind.

Well pat because your job that your paid to do is helping people catch more fish its understandable that you would get frustrated if things don’t go as planned especially considering how much time you spend on the water practice makes perfect right? Well not really we ALL make mistakes no matter how much we try professionals like yourself or guys that just love to fish and have done it for a long time but not for a carreer like me but it always eventually happens but I know I don’t have to tell you this I’m just saying that for me now it ISNT ALL about catching fish it’s actually more for me to get my peace while I do usually do pretty good that’s not what would make or break my trip on the water just being on the water anymore is good enough catching fish is just an added bonus besides you coaches and other I know especially southern florida anglers as well who mostly release all the fish they catch get so worked up if you don’t catch as many as you could but what’s the difference if you release them all anyway I keep my limit because that’s food for me and I know you don’t eat fish so sorry for you because fish is one of the best things nature can give you to eat anyways pont being I’m glad I don’t have to catch fish to please anyone or to make sure I’m doing my job right so I can get paid I’m to old for restrictions and demands but that’s me because I only speak for myself thanks fir the report and c all you do🤔
Thanks Pat for showing how to set up for the grass great info
