Prawn USA (Original & Junior)
Hoss Jigheads (Football & Weedless Football)
- Hoss Football Jighead (4/0 size with 1/4 oz. weight)
- Hoss Weedless Football Jighead (4/0 size with 1/4 oz. weight)
The open-faced Hoss Football Jigheads will have the best hookup ratio.
However, the exposed hook can get snagged in structure or other intrusions.
Hoss Weedless Football Jigheads are SUPER weedless and won’t get snagged on anything.
Another bonus is they will sink right down to the bottom to sit in the structure where a lot of the feeding takes place.
The only con is that the hookup ratio is not quite as good as traditional exposed jigheads.
These lures have BY FAR been my most productive offering for reeling in the biggest fish.
The Prawn USA paired with Hoss Weedless Football Jigheads is my go-to setup when things are slow or if I’m skipping lures beneath a row of docks.

What are your thoughts about texas rigging these shrimp lures?
I tried that along with Carolina rigging these shrimp lures, and neither worked nearly as well as the weedless football jigheads for fishing deep structure… seems like the fish like to see the dirt flair up when the lure hits the bottom.
Great info Luke!
Plenty of great points. Have not tried the helix jig heads yet but i have some to try.
Thanks for all the detail on this rig, Luke. Going to the Pass at 0400 tomorrow and have it rigged with a dirty deeks 30# tippet. Looking for the big ones like you catch.
That’s great Luke, Thanks
If the swivel is buried, what is the point of having it?
The pivoting head connected by the wire was required for this jighead because the style of hook that allows for a head like this to be mounted directly to the hook shank are all too weak for saltwater fishing (all designed for bass). With this style, we were able to attach the weight to a hook that is strong enough for our requirements.
Also, the extra distance between the head and the bend of the hook allows for more fish to be caught per lure since there is more material holding the lure into place.
Luke
Thanks for the rigging video
i went out Saturday morning in a lot of structure and oyster shells and used it weedless and got snagged a few times but it came right out
I couldn’t remember how far to bring the hook out and I did have a small kink at the top I did get a few bites but no hook up the bait was around and the tide was out to start but I was limited to fishing from a pier at my buddies place
I tried a few other lures mulligan and slam shady but didn’t land anything oh well I was still fishing
🤣
Glad to see that you were able to fish the oyster zone without losing any tackle.
Nice video. I tried a power prawn Jr on a 1/4 oz Hoss weedless yesterday in a very shaggy place (under the Copano Bridge) just to see how it would work. I’ve fished this place before with a regular jig head in the past and would only get a few casts in before I would lose my tackle. Yesterday, After about an hour I didn’t catch anything but I didn’t lose anything either. I got hung up about 4-5 times but was able to get unsnaggged after a few seconds. Looks like a great lure and weedless hook for fishing riprap. Thanks!
Glad to see that you’re enjoying this setup for fishing tough structure zones like that.
So basically Saltstrong copies the Eye strike fishing TexasEye but changed the weight style
I’m sorry to see that this post made it seem as if we invented this style of jighead… that certainly is not the case as swinging heads on worm hooks have been around for a very long time (even prior to Texas Eye jigs).
These Hoss Weedless Football jigheads were simply customized to perfectly pair with Power Prawn lures with hooks strong enough to hold up to big snook, redfish, and cobia.

Read and understand his response, Eye strike did not invent this style, and Salt Strong has only made it better for their purpose.
Great video thanks for the information
Thanks Bill
