On-The-Water Action
I launched a bit later than I normally do because I wanted to fish an outgoing tide in the afternoon.
Fishing tall grass lines during outgoing tide sets up ideal conditions for a little lure competition!
I wanted to see if shrimp lures or paddletails could trigger more strikes.
Will either shrimp lures or paddletails catch more fish from tall grass lines?
The bait is on the smaller side in the area I was fishing so I chose to fish with the Power Prawn USA Junior and the 2.0 size paddletail.
Both of these lures are 3.5 inches in length.
I started out throwing the Gold Digger color for both lure styles and IF I had to make a switch later on, I would switch both lure colors out to maintain consistency.
The first fish of the day was caught on the Gold Digger 2.0 paddletail.
After the first fish, the wind started to really pick up and it created an unwanted bow in my line so I had to make a change.
The Hoss Helix Hooks weren’t sitting where I wanted in the water column so I changed those out for Hoss Football Jigheads.
The water in front of me was still only a few feet deep so I used the same 1/8 oz. weight.
Not too long after that, I hooked into the second fish of the day.
This time on the Power Prawn USA Junior which brings the score even.
It didn’t take long for a second fish to strike the Junior shrimp lure bringing the score to 2-1.
I really had to work hard for the final fish of the day which ended up being a solid flounder.
I caught the last fish on the Gold Digger 2.0 paddletail.
At the end of the trip, the final tally was 2 fish caught for both lures.
Final Thoughts
The Power Prawn USA Junior and 2.0 size paddletails are what I use to catch fish all over the country.
If you aren’t familiar with what I do, I live full-time out of an RV and travel around fishing in different states.
No matter where I am fishing or for whatever species are in the area, I always have these two lure styles with me.
Lures and rigging techniques are important to inshore fishing.
But finding the feeding fish is ultimately the ticket to your success.
