Neither of us had ever fished this area before so the first thing we tried to dial into was the bait and where it was moving.
If you can follow the bait, odds are you’ll find feeding fish.
We knew the fish would prefer to hunt in the shallows as this was immediately after a recent front.
After seeing the size of the baitfish in the water, we switched over to slightly smaller presentations to match the hatch.
We kept pushing on and followed the bait with little signs of activity.
Not long after we stopped off near a shoreline with a hard-shell bottom.
The hard-shell bottom heats up in the sun and in turn, warms the water around it creating a perfect spot for fish to hang out and feed.
A few casts into some nearby pilings and I hooked into a solid redfish and Wes was getting a bunch of bites.
We took note of the water temperature in front of us at the different spots.
The previous spot was 58 degrees and the area we caught redfish was 65 degrees.
There is NOT a magic temperature number that defines inshore saltwater fishing.
Just the radical and drastic shift from cold to warmer water is what fish will gravitate towards and where you will find them after cold fronts.
If you can find warmer water, you will find fish quickly.
It’s super fun checking out new areas and matching current trends to waters you had never been to before to catch fish.
We simply applied the concepts in the 90/10 Fishing Recipe to find fish fast.
