Here’s how easy it is to go jigging around bridges for black drum!

I actually ran into these fish by mistake!!!

But I picked up on WHY the black drum were hanging below the bridge and how you can replicate these results for yourself.

Take a look!

This trip was more about targeting speckled trout I stumbled into near the bridge pilings.

But then I hooked into a black drum while actively jigging a Gulp! Shrimp lure.

Gulp! Shrimp are my favorite artificial lure for targeting black drum at any time of the year.

The drum pick up on the fishy scents and smells of the bait making it the ideal black drum lure.

I was basically just casting the lure as close as I could to the bridge fender pilings and letting it sink all the way down.

Slowly reel it in along the bottom giving some pauses every now and then to let the scent disperse.

As you can tell from the video, I was using my open flats fishing gear because I wasn’t having much luck out there.

With the right technique, you can jump from fishing the flats to bridges on the same trip.

Tony you’ve got several video posts over the past year or so catching some excellent black drum — I am struggling to catch my fair share in the lowcountry waters around Beaufort, SC. I do not target them specifically — which may be more than half my problem — but for the amount of inshore fishing I am doing I feel I should be catching more. I’ll give it a go with the gulp shrimp lure when I am around good structure they typically like and hopefully I notice a change in my black drum hookups. thanks for the insightful post as usual!

It looks like you are using a Gheenoe? as your set up here. How do you like the gheenoe?? I’m looking for something a little more stable than a kayak and one with power to get me to places faster. Perhaps do a video of your set up in the future?? Thanks.
