Fishing in winter can be methodical and slow, but if you take your time and work the deeper pockets and ledges with care, you can find where the bigger fish are.
Conclusion
Be mindful of the tides and fish behavior during the winter because you can sift through the small fish to find those big ones hanging around out there.
The key is to let your lure sink down to the bottom and then methodically work it back towards you hopping in and out of potholes on the bottom.
Remember to try different lures and see what is working that day!!!

Cool video Matt. I’m planning to do some marsh creek fishing tomorrow which is new to me so your video collection has been a good source of info.
Glad it’s helpful Nick! Thanks for leaving the nice comment!
Hey Matt. Great day, great video! I’m curious…what is the name of your paddle holder on the port side? Also is it a dual holder? It looks like you have a stick pin also on the same mounting unit???
Hey Roland! Glad that you enjoyed the video!
Good question! That is actually a “rod stager” from John Thomas at Yak Gadget. It’s intended use is for freshwater fisherman to keep their rods handy, but I have a big problem putting my reels that close to saltwater, so I had other plans. LOL

Great video with lots of good advice. On a side note, what kind of boots are those? They look way less cumbersome than rubber muck boots.
Hey Keith, those are Neosport boots. They are technically waterproof (as they are neoprene) but not truly waterproof. I wear Sealskin socks with them as well and that makes my feet 100% dry.
They are MUCH less cumbersome than muck boots.
Hope that helps! Thanks for watching the video! 💪
hell yeah Matt! Like that rock beat on that Red catch! Great lesson on the ultra light weight approach! Makes lots of sense on those cold/calm days!
Glad you found the video helpful, Franklin! Definitely have to play to the situation. 💪
Great planning Matt, thanks for putting this report together !!!
Thanks George! 💪
Matt,
Nice video. Maybe I missed it but what are the yellow and orange pieces of foam at the base of your rods? What are they used for?
Thanks
Frank
Hey Frank, that’s a great question!
There are so that the rod would float if it fell over the side of the kayak. Don’t want to lose any equipment!
So the rod will float if you drop it.
Yessir. They are easy to find in big box tackle stores or online.
Great job and the camera work was fantastic. What a great day you had on a cold day.
Thanks Steve! 💪 It was a good one!
Great Job Matt! Heck of a day! Goooo Ned!!
