How This Angler Is Outfishing Everyone In A Pontoon Boat!

We get questions all the time from people asking, “How can I catch more fish? I don’t have a trolling motor…”
Or, “I don’t have a nice flats boat, I can’t sneak up on the fish… How can I catch them?”
If you’re worried you don’t have the perfect setup for fishing, you’re going to love this episode!
Today, I’ve got Travis Anderson (@sharkfit_cocoabeach) on the podcast and this guy absolutely blew me away.
It seems like every day he’s tagging us on Instagram with pictures of big fish caught on the Slam Shady, so I finally had to get him on the podcast to hear his story.
He was in the middle of sharing some fishing tips with me when he just casually drops the fact that he’s fishing on a pontoon boat with no trolling motor and a big anchor he doesn’t use…
I couldn’t believe it!
Travis has all the excuses to not catch many fish (he grew up in Nebraska, is new to Florida, and fishes from a pontoon boat), but here he is crushing it.
And the best news is, he’s sharing how you can catch tons of inshore slams, too.
In this episode you’ll learn:
- How to plan your trips when you don’t have an anchor or a trolling motor
- Why casting is so important (and how an accident led to him catching his first snook)
- How he went from a beginner angler that loved catching catfish to having fishing guides wanting to hire him
- His favorite lures, equipment, and spots for catching redfish, snook, and trout
- And much more!

What a story!
I love that in just a few short years, Travis went from being the “net guy” to the one catching inshore slams.
Travis is such an inspiration for all of those who think you can’t catch fish just because you don’t have a fancy boat with a trolling motor and Power-Pole.
You can follow Travis and his wife, Natalie, on their Instagram @sharkfit_cocoabeach.

Hello Travis, I can really relate your story in all aspects, Pontoon boat and all,but with one mayor difference: I’m NOT catching as many fish as many fish as.you, not even close, as a !matter of fact went fishing yesterday and got skunk, again.
Will really like to have a conversation with you, I forwarded my info to Joe.
I really need your help on this one,
Thanks.
This was really helpful, since we are new pontoon owners, and new to inshore fishing. Thanks!
Great podcast! Nicely found travis! I moved here 7 years ago from the midwest also, (Missouri) and I wanted pretty much the same type boat you wanted but, my wife wanted the pontoon so, you can guess what we bought! Fishing barge 20 and I love it and catch a lot of big fish from it! No trolling motor but, I do use my shallow water anchor at times! Anyway, I enjoyed your show and keep it up! Tight lines!
It would be interesting to know what gear he is using.
Richard, I have a variety of setups… but for inshore, I use a 3000 reel (Current favorites are penn conflict II and daiwa regal… although I just upgraded to the daiwa fuego). I pair those with one of my starrods; I have a 7’7 sequence and a 7” plasma II.
I use 10 lb spiderwire ultracast with a 30 lb Yozuri Dissappearing pink fluorocarbon leader.
I use all the Slam Shady types (3,4 and 5” zman and the new 2.0 as well) with either 3/16 or 1/4 ounce trout eye jigheads for 99% of my snook, redfish and trout.
Thanks Travis – You are making us non trolling motor guys proud! I love the Fuego
