Great video! Quick question-How do you know where to drop and position the trap to find pinfish? And did you need to use any bait to lure them in?
How do you get the bait out? Cut the zip ties on back end?
Hi Robert, sorry i didn’t post that in the video. If you watch around minute 11:07 then you can see the opening. Once you have the opening then you just cut a little piece for a lid and zip tie it on one side to create a hinge. You can make it as big or as small as you want. I prefer smaller because then the lid that will be attached has less room for the fish to get out. Also if you notice my hand placement when I am pulling the trap out of the water, I have a bungee cord going over the lid. If you would like a picture let me know and I will try to post it on here somehow.
Awesome video, I recognize that pier cause I got “Fishing in my Soul”…lol
Hey Lance,
Thanks for the DIY pin trap video. I have been wanting to try pin traps for a while now. After watching your video I’m going to finally pull the trigger and make one this weekend.
Thanks!
Thanks Jan. Once you make two or three it gets really easy. I recommend starting with the smaller size wire because it bends easier and causes lets cuts on the hands. Let me know if you think of any improvements!
