What is the best jig head for Zman soft plastics?
Kristian Greeve recently submitted this great question, so I decided to make a video because the ability to properly rig soft plastics is essential for having fish catching success.
The absolute most common reason anglers struggle to get strikes when using soft plastics is that their baits are not swimming properly due to poor rigging and/or rigging the baits on the wrong hooks or jig heads.
But when soft plastics are rigged and used properly, they can be extremely effective in consistently catching quality fish all season long.
Given the unique nature of the material in Zman’s soft plastics, the rigging technique and jig head styles are a bit different than other brands.
This video fully explains the reasoning why I prefer some jig heads over others for rigging and using Zman baits.
And since I rarely use just one brand of soft plastic, I discussed the top jig heads for using Zmans plus the other options like Gulp, DOA, Zoom, etc.

Conclusion
Matching the right soft plastic to the right jig head is extremely important for both maximizing your fishing results and maximizing the amount of fish that you can catch per bait.
Different soft plastics react to jig heads differently, so it’s important to pay attention to the details and always strive to find the jig head that matches up best with your soft plastic and your fishing style.

Luke : which jighead would you use if you wanted to rig it weedless, and how would you rig it ?
Zman makes a good weedless jighead that I’ve been testing out lately. I’m just starting to use weedless jig heads, so I don’t have many comparisons to others yet. But theirs are high quality (basically their Trout Eye jig head but with a thin metal wire that loops around the hook point to keep it weedless while still allowing for good hooksets.
I really like the Skyline Jigs Killer Bee Jig Head on Zman swimbaits
Thanks for making time to leave the helpful comment Tim! I’ll have to keep an eye out for the Skyline jigs on future shopping sprees.
Luke, the hooks are extremely strong. It has become my favorite jig head. I had to order them online. Here is the link: https://www.skylinejigs.com/product/skyline-killer-bee-jig-heads/
I’ve been very happy with the Lunker City jigheads. The ridges hold well and let you get the bait rigged properly and then add a Drop of Gorilla Glue gel to make a rock solid bond.
Thanks for making time to leave the helpful comment. I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for Lunker City jigheads.
I just leave the jig head in the Zman for storage
Have you had any trouble with the hooks rusting while doing that (especially for any of them that come pre-scented with ProCure)? The reason I ask is because I now fear storing jig heads in the soft plastic packets after I tried it with Gulp shrimp and ruined a jig head and a pack of shrimp due to how bad the hook rusted:)
Haven’t had rust problem with Zmans. I do not do it with Gulp products. Trying to wean myself off Gulps because of new formulation and poor durability.
Slayer inc. predator XXX jigs are awesome. They handle Z-man like butter.
Thanks Joe! I have heard good things about Slayer jigs, but I still have not used one. I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for them on my next shopping spree.
Nice one Luke. I use the Trout Eyez jigeads almost exclusively for all my soft plastics.
I also use rig sandfleas on the red Trout Eyez and crush Sheepshead with that setup.
Cool! I have never tried sanflies on a jig head before. Glad to see that it works.
I can’t not catch Sheepshead when I use those, Luke.
It’s a killer combo.
