“Animated Lure” Review For Saltwater Anglers [Top 3 Pros & Cons]

The Animated Lure is one of the most interesting and unconventional fishing lures on the market today.
This is a battery-powered, rechargeable lure that has an electric propeller on its nose which allows it to move completely on its own. No reeling or technique by the angler necessary.
It has a segmented tail that has great action as the lure moves itself using the propeller on the nose.
I’ve used this lure fishing for some time and want to give you my honest review of it.
In this article, I go over what you need to know about the Animated Lure, including:
- The top three pros and cons
- What comes in an Animated Lure pack
- How to charge it
You can also see my full review of this lure — including an underwater demo — in the video at the bottom of the article.

The Animated Lure Pack
Each Animated Lure pack comes with three items:
- Animated Lure
- USB charging cable
- One additional propeller
The lure comes in two different sizes: the Animated Lure and the Animated Lure Mini. The Animated Lure is 5.25″ and the Mini is 2.6″.
There are 14 different color options for the Animated Lure and 12 for the Mini.

How To Charge The Animated Lure
The Animated Lure is easy to charge and only requires a few quick steps to do so.
To charge it, attach the red (positive) alligator tips on the charging cable to the metal ring on the top of the lure. Attach the black (negative) alligator tips to the first hook ring on the bottom of the lure.
Once the lure is attached to the clips, plug the charging cable into a USB outlet such as an iPhone cord plug.
When it’s charging, a small blue light will come on behind the eye on the lure. The light will go off once the lure is done charging.
It takes about 45 minutes to one hour to fully charge the lure.

Top Three Pros Of The Animated Lure
In this section, I go over the top three pros I’ve noticed since I started fishing with this lure, which are:
1. Incredibly Lifelike Action
This lure looks incredibly realistic in the water. When the propeller on the front revs up, the segmented tails swings continuously in one of the most realistic lure presentations I’ve ever seen. This action is enticing to fish and very effective.
2. Elite Coloring And Paint Detailing
On top of moving great in the water, the Animated Lure also looks realistic. The paint and detailing on the lure gives it a very lifelike look which is superior to most other lures on the market. All of the different styles for the lures are very well done.
3. Easy To Use
This is one of the easiest lures to use out there. All you need to do is tie a big enough bobber above the lure, cast it out and do nothing. The lure will move and work itself under the bobber without having to reel or move the rod at all. This lure is great for fishing with kids who may just be getting introduced to fishing.
Top Three Cons Of The Animated Lure
I have found some things I do not like while using the Animated Lure. My top cons for this lure are:
1. Price
Both the Animated Lure and the Mini cost roughly $35 for one lure. This is expensive for one lure, especially if you order the lure online and have to pay shipping cost — which will up the cost even more.
2. Electronics And Corrosion
Anything with electronics in it will speed up the saltwater corrosion process and cause metals to rust quicker. This holds true with the Animated Lure. You must make sure to wash these lures thoroughly and as quick as possible once you get off the water. These lures are recommended for freshwater use but can be used in the saltwater. If you use it in salt, try to get fresh water on it as fast as possible once you’re done fishing with it.
3. Durability
I have concerns about how this lure is going to hold up against saltwater over time and how that will affect the electronics. My two main concerns about the durability are, one, will corrosion eventually cause the lure to break down and ruin the electronics. Two, the hard plastic head can crack if it hits a hard piece of structure, which would ruin the entire lure.

Conclusion
While the Animated Lure is expensive, it is also one of the most innovative lures out there on the market today.
It combines technology with the lure to make fishing easier. It’s great for kids and anyone who is just getting introduced to fishing.

Why not do an on the water test/review of this thing. I mean you spent the $35 already right. Seems interesting enough. Doesn’t look like anyone has done a solid review of this thing yet. They have a new saltwater version coming I think. Throw that thing off the side of your yak for an hour and let’s see what happens.
Good morning
At first – sorry for my english…
I can’t find information about the wight from the mini… Can someone help my?
One thing to mention is that those models are specifically for fresh water. I emailed Animated Lure on their website and that is what they told me. They said they will have their saltwater line up later in 2019.
Great post and video!
I am from Egypt. I noticed that the animated lure does not have a start and stop key witch means that the propeller of the lure will work while charging the battery or just after charging the battery and the propeller will not stop rotating until the battery is finished which is not practical to use while fishing. Waiting for explanation. Thanks
Hey Ibrahim!
The propeller only turns on when the lure is submerged in water. Once it’s in the water it will turn on and off randomly to move the lure around. Once removed from the water, the propeller does not spin. I’m not 100% sure on what makes it kick on and on electronically, but it will only turn on when submerged in water.
Thanks tony. U know that 1US dolar makes 18LE plus shipping and fees in egypt so this lure will cost about 1000LE. It’s ok and hope to catch a fish with it
My sons won’t stop spinning while it’s being charged. Is that normal? We have yet to try it in the water because we haven’t been able to charge it properly
That happens because the black clip is hooked up to the wrong ring on the bottom of the lure while charging. Make sure it is hooked up to the front hook ring.
That looks really cool! I cringe when I lose an eight dollar lure; for $35 I would be crying! Jig heads and soft plastics are more my price range.
Yes definitely not for the angler on a budget haha. For that price there should be some type of warranty.
Wow interesting but being old fashioned like I am I think I’ll stick to the standard lures out there besides using lures to catch fish to me is more exciting then using bait and half the fun is knowing you gave it the action and made the lure do and act the way it should to me the principle is kinda like this driverless car that is being tested im sorry but hell no i want to be behind the wheel and not trust some computor to do it for me anyways thanks for the review and as always for all you do????
No problem Steven, thank you!
I appreciate all of the positivity everyone…..
